Work in the field relies on a local workforce, regional contractors, suppliers, and logistics networks, contributing to ongoing economic activity in the area.
We value having people from the region involved in the work, bringing local knowledge and practical experience that shapes the project’s success.

90% Alaskan hire rate for the seasonal employees and 70% (of total hiring) local Haines area seasonal employees. A local-first approach to procurement means goods and services are sourced locally where available, before expanding elsewhere in Alaska or beyond.
Local employees are a key part of how work at Palmer is carried out. Experience working in the region, combined with practical knowledge and problem-solving ability, supports safe and efficient operations in a challenging environment.
Local employment also means that economic benefits remain in the region, supporting local businesses and initiatives through day-to-day spending. It also strengthens accountability, with people working on the project having a direct connection to the area and a clear interest in how work is done.
This includes working with regional and statewide organizations to support coordination, information sharing, and alignment with established expectations for exploration.

This includes sharing updates on what work is underway, what stage the project is in, and what comes next, using plain language to support understanding as the project progresses.

Palmer Scholarship Program
The Palmer Scholarship Program supports local students pursuing careers in mining, skilled trades, and related fields. Each year, three students are selected to receive scholarships valued at $500 annually for up to four years, helping support their educational and career goals.
We are proud to support the next generation of skilled workers and industry leaders, and are pleased to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients:
Isabelle Alamillo & John Davis
We congratulate each recipient and look forward to following their future success.

Supporting Early Childhood Education
Palmer Project is proud to support early childhood education in the Chilkat Valley through a $5,000 donation to the Chilkat Valley Preschool (CVP).
As one of only three licensed childcare providers in the valley, CVP plays an important role in supporting local families, workforce participation, and long-term community resilience. Their educators create a strong foundation for children during some of the most important years of development.
We’re grateful for the dedication of the Chilkat Valley Preschool team and the positive impact they make in the community every day. Strong communities start with strong foundations.
